Blitz Tournament

19/11/2025

Our blitz tournament on 18 November, organised by  Rob Colston with help from Mel Burt, attracted 16 participants, including several enthusiastic juniors.
Each player had just 5 minutes, plus a 3-second increment, to complete each game. Unsurprisingly, blunders were common! Black-squared bishops found their way to white squares, and in one game desperate time-trouble with one second left was saved by an illegal move. Several of our new members had never played in a blitz tournament before and found it stressful but exciting!
The tournament was won by Rob Colston with an impressive 5.5/6 points, followed by Goetz Bucher (5/6), Alan Gibson, David Watt, and Alan Sharp (4/6). The highest-placed junior was Hanhan Wen (3/6).
