Arran v Bearsden

Rob Colston writes:
On Tuesday 13th August -- the last day of the school holidays for some -- I went across to Arran with three junior members. It wasn't quite the nicest day, but cleared up in the afternoon. A slightly truncated window for chess -- we didn't arrive until 11:00 just left time for two quick-play games for each of us (15:10) with a short break in-between, before the venue -- the Douglas Hotel -- needed the chess room for lunch customers. We adjusted the board order a bit to avoid me playing my son-in-law Andy McNamara yet again.
Unusually, their captain Wyllie (Hume, one of a few Arran members with a PNUM on Chess Scotland) opted for four Whites for us in round one, four Blacks in round 2. It didn't make a lot of difference as we won all the games: 8--0.
The boys all enjoyed the trip, Ishan and Hanhan accompanied by family. Aaron Rae enjoyed an exploration of Brodick after lunch. I met up with my daughter and younger granddaughter, Rosie, for lunch.
Arran players enjoyed having someone different to play.
Our team: Rob Colston, Ishan Kumar, Hanhan Wen, Aaron Rae.
