Juniors Section

The club's popular Juniors section will; restart on Tuesday 17 January. Coaching sessions will run from 6:30 to 7:30pm, and will be led by Rob Colston and Max Cochrane.
   The Juniors section is open to all school-age children, ranging from chess novices to more experienced chess players.

Glasgow League

The Glasgow Chess League has finally restarted operation after the pandemic forced a 2-year break.
In Division 1, Bearsden A got off to an unpropitious start, losing to Hamilton A and to league champions Stepps A. It seems that we are still rather rusty (although our opponents were not)! Stepps A lead the division with 5/6 match points, but it is still early days; most other teams have played only 1 or 2 matches.
In Division 2, Bearsden B had a shaky start, but improved with an eventful win over Paisley B. This result leaves them in second position with 3/6 match points, just behind Giffnock with 4/4.

Our President, Rob Colston, has arranged two exciting events for this winter. Both events will be free and open to all club members.
On 13 December, there will be a blitz tournament. Each player will have 5 minutes (plus 3-second increments) to play all his/her moves in each game. This will probably be a 5-round Swiss tournament.
On 10 January, there will be a simultaneous display by club member Andrew Greet. Andrew is an International Master, and recently played for Scotland in the Chennai Olympiad; playing on board 1, he achieved an excellent plus score,
